Greg Middents
Greg Middents is a Texas judge, public servant, political strategist, author, and speaker whose life has been guided by a simple belief: leadership is not about power—it is about service.
Raised in Sherman, Texas, Greg grew up in a home where faith, education, and community mattered. His father served as a Presbyterian minister and college professor, while his mother dedicated her career to teaching young children. Around the dinner table, conversations often centered on responsibility, integrity, and helping others.
Those lessons would shape the course of his life.
As a young man, Greg was recognized as Grayson County's "4-H'er of the Year" for his work raising and showing horses. He was also active in Boy Scouts, where he learned the value of discipline, hard work, and leadership. Long before politics or the courtroom entered the picture, he learned that character is built one decision at a time.
Faith
Faith has been a constant thread throughout Greg's life.
Raised in the Presbyterian tradition, he learned early that faith is not merely something practiced on Sunday mornings—it is something lived through service, humility, and compassion. Those values influenced his approach to public office, community involvement, and leadership.
His favorite scripture, Micah 6:8, continues to serve as a guide:"What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God."
Family
Family has always been Greg's foundation.
From his parents' example of service and education to the friendships and relationships built throughout decades of public life, Greg believes that people matter more than titles, positions, or accomplishments.
Many of the stories found in his writing are ultimately stories about people—family members, mentors, colleagues, and ordinary citizens whose lives intersected with his own.
Values
Greg believes integrity still matters. He believes public service should be about people rather than politics, solutions rather than slogans, and accountability rather than excuses. Those principles have guided him from the courthouse bench to presidential campaigns and continue to shape his work today.
Judge
After managing a congressional campaign in the Texas Panhandle, Greg sought public office himself. At just 29 years old, he defeated an incumbent and became the youngest Justice of the Peace ever elected in Grayson County, Texas. Voters would return him to office three more times, giving him sixteen years on the bench. The position required far more than hearing cases. It meant serving as a magistrate, overseeing juvenile matters, conducting inquests, and making decisions that often affected the lives of families and entire communities.
Juvenile Justice
One of Greg's greatest passions was helping young people find a better path.
Believing that accountability and opportunity should work together, he became a strong advocate for diversion programs and mentoring initiatives. His efforts helped bring Big Brothers Big Sisters into Grayson County and supported programs that encouraged rehabilitation rather than simply punishment.
His work earned recognition from both Texas Governors, Ann Richards and George W. Bush.
Public Service
Throughout his career, Greg viewed public office as a calling rather than a career.
Whether serving meals on wheels through community organizations, mentoring youth, supporting charitable causes, or helping citizens navigate difficult situations, he believed public service extends far beyond the courtroom.
Courtroom Stories
Over sixteen years on the bench, Greg witnessed the best and worst of human nature.
Some stories were heartbreaking. Others were inspiring. A few were downright hilarious.
Those experiences provide many of the memorable moments found throughout Judged By The Works, Minus The Hairpiece—a behind-the-scenes look at justice, leadership, and the people who pass through the system.
From the Courtroom to Presidential Politics
Campaigns
Politics became another avenue of service.
Over four decades, Greg worked on local, state, congressional, and presidential campaigns, gaining firsthand experience in the realities of American politics.
Clinton and Biden
In 2016, Greg served as a Field Organizer in North Florida for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
In 2019-20, he joined Joe Biden's successful presidential campaign, helping coordinate volunteer outreach efforts before later serving as a Rural Outreach Advisor for the general election. He also served on the Texas Leadership Team.
The experience provided a front-row seat to modern presidential politics and the challenges facing the nation.
Congressional Race
Earlier in his career, Greg managed a U.S. Congressional campaign in the Texas Panhandle, learning firsthand how campaigns are built, how coalitions are formed, and how public trust is earned—or lost.
National Experience
Greg's public service journey also included work in Washington, D.C., where he served as an LBJ Intern and later as a legislative aide for his hometown Congressman.
He later worked within Hawaii's judicial system, expanding his understanding of government, leadership, and public service from coast to coast.
Few people have spent as much time inside the institutions that shape American life—from local courthouses to presidential campaigns.
Life in the Florida Keys

Today, Greg lives and works in the Florida Keys, where turquoise water and island sunsets provide a very different backdrop from the courthouses and campaign headquarters that defined much of his career.
Writing
Greg is the author of Judged By The Works, Minus The Hairpiece, a candid and often humorous memoir about public service, politics, leadership, and faith.
He is currently working on his second book, inspired by his experience sharing a boarding house with eight very different personalities during the Biden campaign—a story filled with humor, conflict, friendship, and life lessons.

Drawing from decades of experience in law, politics, and public service, Greg speaks to civic organizations, universities, community groups, and leadership audiences.

Current Work
Today, Greg serves with the 16th Judicial Circuit in the Florida Keys, continuing a lifelong commitment to justice, accountability, and public service.While the scenery has changed from Texas courthouses to island waters, the mission remains the same: serving people, strengthening communities, and leaving things a little better than he found them.
Drawing on decades of experience as a judge, public servant, political strategist, and community leader, Greg continues to work at the intersection of law, leadership, and public trust. His career has taken him from local courtrooms to presidential campaigns, but his belief in servant leadership has never changed.
In recent years, Greg has added author, speaker, and commentator to his public service resume. Through his writing, public presentations, and Substack essays, he explores issues of leadership, ethics, faith, public service, and the challenges facing American democracy. His work reflects a simple conviction: character matters, service matters, and our communities are strongest when we focus on what unites rather than divides us.
When he's not working, writing, or speaking, you'll likely find him on the water—sailing, fishing, or enjoying the natural beauty of the Florida Keys. It is there, surrounded by the sea and the island community he now calls home, that he finds both inspiration and perspective.
The cowboy boots may come off from time to time, but Texas never really leaves you.
